Continuing Education Information
Licensed Residential, Journeyman and Master Electricians:
You may view available on-line, correspondence, and in-person courses as well as check your individual credits taken. Please allow one month for entry of course information by sponsors.
Only courses approved by the Montana State Electrical Board will be reported for your individual credits.
Courses approved by a reciprocal state are accepted by the Montana State Electrical Board. Reciprocal state approved course credits will not appear in your individual credits but may be audited by the Board. Reciprocal states are: Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming. A reciprocal state may or may not allow the use of Montana approved courses. You will need to contact that state's office for specifics on their continuing education program.
Eight hours of continuing education must be obtained for each year in the renewal cycle. Requisite hours may be obtained during any portion of the renewal cycle. A minimum of four of the eight annual hours shall be certified as covering NEC updates. Newly licensed graduates of approved apprenticeship programs are exempt from continuing education requirements in the first renewal cycle. Licensees changing from journeyman or residential to a higher level of licensure are not exempt from completing the required hours of continuing education. Licensees are responsible for maintaining a record of completion certificates for courses or seminars and the hours attended. A random audit of completion certificates may be performed by the board at any time.
Continuing Education Provider:
Courses must be approved before course credits are granted to an individual.
All approved courses will expire on August 1st.
Once your course is approved you will be sent a username and password. Course providers will be able to update contact information and course dates. Course providers are required to enter a roster of course attendees within 20 days of completion of a course.
